Gavin Harris Retires

27 Mar 2018

Dear Members,

It is with deep regret that I have to advise you that Gavin Harris, Category 3 Specialist Assistant Referee, has had to retire from active refereeing due to an ongoing injury problem.

It is not a decision he has taken lightly but has given his long term wellbeing priority.

Following this I am delighted to confirm that Gavin has been appointed as an SFA Development Advisor with immediate effect and he will be able to pass on his extensive experience to our up and coming referees.

Gavin enjoyed a prestigious career which included being on the FIFA List of Officials.  Some statistics from his career include:

  • 236 SPFL Appointments of which 73 were in the SPL and included both the Edinburgh and Dundee derby’s
  • 109 SPFL reserve/Youth/Friendlies
  • 24 UEFA matches in 2013 & 2014 of which 4 in the Champions League and 4 in the Europe League including the 2014 Quarter Final between Lyon and Juventus.
  • Scottish Youth Cup Final 2012 between Celtic and Queen of the South
  • Scottish League Cup Semi Final 2014 between Aberdeen and St Johnstone
  • Scottish Cup Semi Final 2014 between St Johnstone and Aberdeen
  • QATAR FA League Cup 2014 between Al Ahli and Al Arabi

Please join me in passing on our thanks and recognition to Gavin and welcoming him into his new role within the Association as a SFA Development Advisor.

Kind regards

Neil Watters
