Scottish FA Referees - Angus & Perthshire News story

Bill Miller

22 Oct 2018

Dear members,

It is with deep sadness that I have to advise Bill Miller passed away on Thursday 18th October.

Bill was one of our longest standing members and filled many positions within the Association including his 2 year tenure as President in 1982-84.

He passsed his referee entrance exam back in 1966 and by season 1975 had made it to the senior list at the then Category 3A.  He spent 20 years on the senior list with some noteable highlights including: -

  • Assistant referee for the 1991 Scottish Cup Final between Motherwell and Dundee Utd
  • Assistant referee in 1978 Uefa Cup 1st round 2nd leg between Lierse and FC Carl Zeiss Jena
  • Assistant referee in 1980 Eurpean Cup Winners Cup 1st round 2nd leg between Benfica and Malmo

Upon coming off the senior list he then became a Referee Assessor then Referee Observer before he retired in 2007.  During this time he helped so many of our members progress through his guidance and advice.

Bill was a true gentleman and his passing is deeply felt.

The funeral will take place on Monday 29th October 2018 at 11.30am, Sturrock, Comb and Davidson, Broughty Ferry.

On behalf of the Angus & Perthshire Referees Association we send our deepest condolences to Bills family.

Neil Watters, Steve Pullar
